i have the latest Realteck drivers and the sound doesn't work i plugged in ear phones and i hear a crackling noise. i have a Evga 650i ultra motherboard with windows xp sp2 please give me advice on how to fix this sound problem thanks.

Not being funny but buy yourself a soundcard, they sound better, they're easier to get the drivers for and they free up some CPU utilisation (albeit not much).
On-board sound tends to pick up interference off the other components on the motherboard (which is just about everything) and I've noticed they develop crackles that you can't seem to cure, not sure why.

Sound turned on in Bios? Speaker plugged in to green port?, in device manager does it show up a sound device?
