When running Orthos on my current setup, I noticed the motherboard temperature hitting 89degrees C. I believe this is too high. Any thoughts?

have you fitted the fan?

Read a post on the EVGA froum where the tech suggested that if you are getting 90c then fit the fan on 50%

yeah the fan is on. i flashed the bios too with the latest firmware because I was getting tons of crashing and freezing (even in bios) when i first installed the board. i emailed EVGA and will post their reply. still not happy tho.
How do i get the fan on 50%? I assumed it would run on 100% as default.

OK i've flashed to a more recent BIOS firmware and the temps seem more like they first did when I bought the board. The mainboard is hitting 82 degrees instead of 90, and idles around 45.

One thing i don't understand tho - surely setting the fan to 50% means is running half as fast??

If you MCP Temp is getting that hot you might want to check the chipset heatsinks are seated properly.

There is a sticky thread on the EVGA Mobo forum for replacing the NB/SB "Putty".

I've replaced the Putty with Ceramique and had to twist/bend the MCP heatsink to make it sit properly....my temps dropped by about 15 degress = :)
