ive been experimenting lately with overclocking my e6600 on the evga 680i board, i know about disabling the various thermal and spread settings. running the system unlinked ive been able to hit 3ghz pretty easily. just by upping the cpu fsb. my main concern is voltage, ive just left it on auto (is this good or bad eg vcore fsb voltage) my memory voltage is set at 2.1 and manufacturers rec timings of 4.4.4.10. theese are my attempts so far while using the stock cooler, which ill be changing soon. should i set both theese voltage values to manual and work from there. ive tried manually setting vcore at just over 1.4 in bios yet in windows it shows slightly less. any advice would be much appreciated

The reason that the vcore is different in windows to bios is because 680i boards have problems with their voltages. This can be sorted wth a 2b pencil.
As long as your temps are ok (use coretemp) then you can up the vcore more and see if you can get higher fsb. Also might be worth given the nb a little more voltage if things become a little unstable.

is this the infamous 680 v droop you hear about jabski, ive also heard that if voltages are left on auto theese boards tend to overvolt a little, temp wise ive been up to 68.c @ 3.2ghz on stock cooling, which was a bit worrying. also am i right in thinking the north bridge is known as the mch, i know that this chipset can run pretty hot so next week im replacing the thermal paste on the nb, sb and mosfetts and sticking a new cpu cooler in, im pretty new to this ocing lark but damm its addictive

68c seems a bit toasty. i would recomend either the 120 plus or tuniq tower as a replacement of the stock cooler. Also replacing the thermal paste will help. And yes the nb voltage is vmch
