EVGA 780ti running with no pci-e cable?

thats the right way to plug them in bud. basically, the second connector bridges from the first.

the 8pin connector is basically a 6pin connector 3 12v and 5 GND or or sns pins (the sns pins just tell the gpu if the cables are plugged in correctly)

How would I do that sorry? All I have done so far is installed the gpu driver from disk. I may create a new thread dedicated on the bios issue and to updating the bios, as I have not done it before.

download latest bios for that motherboard, extract it to usb memory stick

turn off pc and unplug the vga wires you just plugged into gpu

then plug monitor display into the motherboard at the back, from gpu

plug in usb stick, powerup pc and boot into bios, flash bios through qflash

Monitor is flashing hdmi and analog . Nothing appearing on screen. Moved monitors cables from gpu now into motherboard slots. Nothing Aagh

you might need to remove gpu completely

its a pain I know but best to be on latest bios just to rule out any incompatibility,it should boot in less than 15 seconds if on ssd not 4 minutes

you'll be fine aslong as its correct bios for your model of mb and you flash within the bios using qflash

it will reset any oc/bios settings/profiles so make a note of any beforehand

Thank you so far for all ur help and support, but as this is the last stepping stone I want to be sure I'm doing it correctly. On the gigabyte website I have gone to my motherboard, gigabyte z77 d3h though it comes up as go z77 d3h. I have gone to support and downloads, but now I'm lost, it says rev 1.2 by its name, along with 2 other versions, Rev 1.1 and rev 1.0. My current bios version is f14 how can I find which rev I need, as each rev has different downloads /update versions

you'll be ok

if you wanna find the revision itll be printed on the board somewhere in white lettering, but 99% sure it wont matter what rev with that board

rev 1.0 :) so just to be sure im flashing the bios, then installing bios from drive? or do i just update with what im guessing an update button. guess i should watch a vid

just extract the bios to usb mem stick, boot into bios then press f8 for qflash and follow or point it to the memory stick/bios file and click on update, then let it update the bios and restart pc,thats it

then setup your gpu again

Everything works. All as it should. I don't know how to thank you for ur help and patience. Means a lot, been stressing about this past couple of days, looking back on it such simple little things. Now I'm ready for watch dogs lol. Next step.... Overclocking cpu with my new cooler lol I will play it safe for now :-) cheers bud!
