Then he needs a S1155 motherboard.

I assume he'll be getting the i5-3570K for overclocking?

While I'm here please fix your sig.

If he's getting an i5-3570K to overclock then you selection of motherboards is basically here.

Which one to get is going to depend on what features are required etc.

If your friend has a budget for his new system then this thread can be moved to General Hardware for someone to work up a spec.

Need to know things like budget, use of PC, is just a base unit required or does he need peripherals (keyboard, mouse etc.), is an operating system required?

He has an i5 and a gigabyte p55 ud5 and 4 gig which he is selling, he just needs a new board and chip and maybe some ram although I think he has another 4 gig of ddr3 kicking about he may use at first.

Has he decided on the processor then so he just needs a motherboard?

Is he going to need a CPU cooler?

Are all his drives SATA as IDE has pretty much gone on S1155 motherboards.

You need to match a S1155 processor with a S1155 motherboard and a S2011 processor with a S2011 motherboard.

Pick a processor and then choose a suitable motherboard or a pick a motherboard and then a suitable processor.

I imagine most people pick their processor and find a suitable motherboard.

I think this is what he is going for now guys, I will be ordering for him some time next week

Is there a reason for the 3770K?

Basically it's a 3570K with hyperthreading.

Unless he's going to make use of the hyperthreading the 3570K is a cheaper option.

An OEM processor has a shorter warranty (1 year compared to 3 for retail) and he'll need a CPU cooler if he doesn't have one.

Is a microATX motherboard large enough for whatever your friend wants to put on there?

He doesn't have any PCI cards he wants to use?
