Hi guys,

Looking for some advice re: adding extension cables to supplied cables with the EVGA G2/G3 (I'll be going for the 550w version, but couldn't find one on OCUK)

I'm building my son's first (modest) gaming PC for Christmas. I was given the Corsair 240 Carbide case so decided to build around that, hence the white theme. Sorry, i'm digressing. Anyway, I've been researching PSUs and like the EVGA G2 or G3 550w as they're fully modular and a good price.

What I was curious about is, as the supplied cables come with "in-wire" (IW) capacitors, will it have an adverse effect on performance/safety if I add non-IW extensions? Please excuse my ignorance :-) as I have no idea what the IW capacitors do.

The reason for adding extensions is purely cosmetic, i'll be using all white braided cables in-keeping with the white theme. All major cables attached to the MB will be via white braided cables, PSU 24pin, CPU 8pin, GPU 6pin etc.

Secondly with regards to the PSU itself, am I right in saying the 550w will be sufficient to run this rig. The CPU will be the i5-7600, 8g of DDR4 2400, there'll be 3x120mm LED fans, CPU cooler (undecided on this so far, something white :-) ), and a couple of LED strips.

Thanks in advance, much appreciated.

Thanks for all the advice guys. After further thought I've gone for the below PSU. Thanks for the recommendation, great reviews.

I've also decided on the below case in white, as the GFX card power cable was pressed against the case window on the Carbide 240. This has also allowed me to go for the Gammaxx 400 white CPU cooler, keeping with white theme.

Thanks again for all the advice and recommendations. Invaluable as always.
