EVGA GTX 970 Driver Issue

Hello,

I recently bought a completely new rig.
- MSI Z97 G5
- i7-4790K
- GTX 970
- Corsair RM850 PSU

Once all parts where put in I booted up the machine and installed the OS. Everything was fine until I installed the GPU drivers. Soon as I did this and rebooted, the OS would boot to the desktop for a few seconds then go to a black screen. It would continue to do this after every reboot as well as in safe mode.

I tried reformatting and downloading different driver versions but had the same issue. I also tried replacing the PSU but no luck.

Any ideas what might fix this? I'm assuming its a faulty card but thought I would ask if anyone else has run into the same or similar issue.

It do sound like a faulty card. Do you have by accident a second card available you could test your system with? This would be the most simple way to get to know if the fault is with the card or caused by something else in the system. Do you get a nvklm or display driver kicked message when the screen recover?

I had similar with my new 970 SSC, windows splash screen displays ok, but when Windows initializes to desktop screen goes black?

Windows installed igp driver and forced output through it, only way I got it going was to disable igp in safe mode.

If you can catch it in safe mode(on W10, win key+X select device manager) then it's quick and easy to do, if not, long way is reinstall windows but don't let it connect to internet(don't let Windows update and disable automatic hardware) uninstall and disable igp from device manager.

Complete and utter nightmare identifying the problem and thought it was the card, but got it going in the end.

Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give this a go this evening.

I took the card out and I'm able to run the machine using the on-board motherboard display.
