Hi guys, I am looking forward to buying the EVGA 980ti but im not sure what to do in terms of monitors. Should I go for a 1080p 144hz or a 1440p 60hz ? I'm not a super hardcore gamer to play competitively in cs go or something , i just like my games to look pretty and have fun :) + i am doing A LOT of written work for college and such so I am wondering, more pixels or better refresh rate ?

ALSO, will my current system be bottlenecking this beastly card in the future?

In your situation I would choose a 1440p monitor. I loved the extra screen space whilst working during uni - most websites and applications work perfectly in two side by side 720 width windows. In win 10 it'll be even better with quarter screen windows.

When I was in your position I chose the Korean route and picked up a Qnix QX2710 which is a 1440p PLS with a huge OC potential (have been running mine at 100Hz for 2 years now without issue, I can't go back to 60Hz). Nowadays the Crossover 2795 QHD is the one to get.

Id also reccomend 1440p. Recently made the switch from 1920x1200 to the asus ROG swift. Such a difference in games and the 980ti handles this res quite nicely. As will the 4790k, used the 980ti with a 4790k based setup prior to moving to X99.

I have just went from 1080p to 1440 with a 980ti & 4790k you will have no problems its a very nice change never tried 144hz though

Thank you for the great responses! I shall follow your advice and find myself a nice 1440p screen. If you have any models/brands you think i should be looking at tell me :) my budget goes to roughly 700£+ but not too much over :) so yeah . Thanks a lot!
