Just discovered this nice little feature after trying to figure out why my copy of Assassins Creed Unity was CTD when I was fast travelling between areas of Paris.

I've gone from a unstable game to a completely stable game, literally overnight. And that's at 1520Mhz on a 980.

I wonder why this isn't a feature of Nvidia control panel? Some folk have said forcing constant voltage in afterburner does the same thing, or the 'prefer maximum performance' in nvcpl, but I don't think it does. I've have both enabled, and still got the crashes.

Is there any particular reason? Card lifespan?

Had the card just before Xmas, Winter temps have been good and 'in game' haven't gone much over 40C. I turn it off when not gaming as you would expect.

I expect to put around 10-20C on those temps during peak Summer heat. Still won't be much of an issue though (God bless watercooling)

Nice little feature.
