Hey everyone, Why did OCuK have to have two of the same cards in the same The Week Only section! Got me really confused now...Ive jsut sold my current X1950XT so now im looking for something to replace it. With the recent offers on ive whittled it down to three options...

EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS SuperClocked 320MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - £218.54 Delivered.

BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC2 320MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - £220.89 Delivered.

OR!!

Get a cheap bog standard 320mb card, such as a Palit for £192

The differance between the two is about £3? with the BFG one haveing 5mhz more in the core :p

I mean according to THIS review it seems that there pretty much on par, maybe the EVGA one just a ltitle ahead sometimes.

Bear in mind the idea is, when theres a game out it cant handle, probably Cryisis. Ill just get another one and SLi it up, So I really would prefer one that will be around for another year and not get phased out.

Thanks a lot.

I'd get the EVGA due to their warranty covering overclocking and aftermarket cooling, and because they offer a 90 day step up program for near-future upgrades (G90 shouldn't be long off.)

Step up program?

you can trade in the card for a newer one?

Yes, card + cash (the price difference between what you paid and the retail price of the new card.)

It's basically just a part exchange, very good system.

So, if you bought an 8800GTS for ~£200 (for example's sake) and G90 came out within those 90 days for ~£300 (for examples sake, again) then it would only cost you £100 if you send in your 8800GTS.

lol good good, the whole prospect of Trade-In for the EVGA is probably swaying me that way...and the overclocking warrenty :D could be handy!

EVGA IT IS!

Does anyone know when the 8900 will be released? before 90 days? :P

With the step up programme do you have to pay the difference via a card, or can you send a cheque with the card you mare trading in?

Also, I wonder if you have to pay the difference between what you paid and the full retail price of a card (i.e. not the price that retailers sell it at).

Has anyone taken advantage of this step-up programme?

Apparnetly what you do is you buy directly off of EVGA, once you have the (my case new 8800GTS) you redgister to the website and on there will be a tab for "Step-Up Programme". Once there you can upgrade to ANY of the future graphics card provided but EVGA, you just have to pay the differance ...For Example

I Would Own - EVGA 8800GTS 320mb - £200

In the future I would want - EVGA 8900GTX - £400

It means when the graphics card is released I would have to only pay £200 for the new 8900GTX. No depreciation. Pretty sweet deal, so logically your best bet is wait till until you have about 5 days left in the Step-Up programme and just upgrading to the something new.

BOUGHT THE EVGA 8800GTS 320MB SUPERCLOCKED! Chose it over the BFG simple becuase of the Step-Up programme, seems like an incredible idea. CANT WAIT!

Yeah i chose the Evga simply because of the trade up program and besides the 10 year warranty is probably overkill anyway but nice to know it will still run even when its no longer needed or used.

Stupid question, but i take it Evga are only a sole partner for Nvidia?. It would be nice to think that you could trade up and over to Ati should they offer a better option.

OK Just installed it and im very happy! no hasstle with drivers or anything, just installed and ** off...

Ran Mark06 and got 9219. Got 6443 with my X1950XT so theres a real improvement.

Do you think its a good idea to update my drivers? If so, which ones would you choose?

I thought you have to send your card to the US if you RMA with EVGA and some place in Wales for BFG cards? I would probably go for the BFG if theres nothing worth upgrading to on the near horizon. BFG cards are usually slightly cheaper also.

I believe you can only use the step-up program once as a consumer. HOwever, i am not sure if that is once in your lifetime or once for every purchase you make "new" as in a brand new card a full retail price?!?

Also, I didn't realise that the trade in price for the old one was the original price, i thought it was the current price. That is good to know :)
