Whats the point in this, it would cost me over £200 to upgrade my Standard GTS 640 to a GTX & thats without P&P costs to & from the States/Germania.

How is it a fraud? i thought they give you what you paid for the card then you pay the difference well that's what it says on the specs so if you paid £240 for a gts you get £240 then pay the extra for 8800gtx ?

Really? Didn't think the price difference between a 640GTS and a GTX would be so much.

Your step up costs you evga's price for the card you are going to. So for example you might have paid £240 for your evga GTS from an e-tailor. On the evga website that same card might cost £299. Say you then want to step up to an 8800GTX that costs £350 from an online store but is listed as £430 on the evga website. You're actually paying the difference between 430 and 240. In some cases it might actually be cheaper to flog the GTS on ebay and pay £350 (all example prices I must add) for the card from an e-tailor.

The evga stepup isn't total poo in my opinion, but is certainly less amazing than it appears before you consider all the factors.

Pretty much what he says, it would be much fairer if they didn't take into account what you paid for it & just set the same price on all cards.

why would you want to step up tho? you only just got the card if it wasnt powerful enough when you bought it you shouldnt have bothered, and yes the step up program is a con, but they have to make money somehow

I dont want to step-up atm, was just curious as to how it worked.

I used the step up program. I went from a 7950gx2 to the 8800GTX for £90. I didnt think that was a bad deal. Considering i had been using the 7950gx2 for around 10 weeks. I certainly wouldn't say it was a fraud, not unless it's changed since i used it.

For £90 that's a very good deal! wow :)

(Think they'll take my Ati x1950xt if i biro 'EVGA' on the cooler? ;) )

They give you price of what your card was new on invoice, it does not depreciate like I though it did, if you pay say £300 for a card, in 90days they step you up and new card from them is £450 (ok may be overpriced from them) you pay £150 (not sure on P&P), thast why i was told by this sote before I bought a EVGA as I was unsure also.

wow, great deal.

now, rumours are that 9800GTX will come out in November. what if i buy a EVGA 8800GTS at the end of September, and then step up to 9800GTS when it comes out. surely that would be a good deal, as the difference is calculated via invoice, not via EVGA's web price

That all depends on what the 9800GTS will be priced at on their website - their official RRP could easily be £100 more than it costs at an e-tailor.

If they calculate the difference using invoice cost, surely they are leaving themselves open to fraud? I mean, say you own a company (or have some way of pushing through an invoiced sale), you could sell yourself an EVGA 8400GS for £500, and then step up to a 8800ultra for next to nothing. Even if only certain cards are in the stepup program presumably you could do the same thing with a GTS320 or whatever.
