EVGA step up

It's okay but you have to remember it's based on the price difference between what they sell the new card for and what you paid for the old card.

Eg if you bought an EVGA 8800 GTS 320mb for £200 and EVGA lists it at £250 and the GTX you want can be had for £400 from ocuk but EVGA lists at £450 then you would have to pay £250 to upgrade.

Sometimes cheaper to buy the new card from an outlet and sell your old card. Has the other advantage of not been without a card for a week to two weeks.

Imo 3 months is way too short , I mean who upgrades their graphics card every three months

It means that if you buy (say) an 8800 Ultra and then 2 months later a new card comes out that's twice as fast, you can upgrade for a hopefully nominal fee.

I fell into the step-up trap thinking that i'd upgrade my evga 7900gs ko (bought 11/06) within 3 months, i paid over what is was worth and could have got a much better card for my money eg. 7900gtx. IMO Just buy the best value for money card.

Ignoring the step up though, it is worth buying an EVGA card especially the ACS3 versions so long as you don't pay too much over the odds.

They have a great warranty (10 years) and is the the only (i'm sure somebody will correct me if wrong) manufacturer who honours the warranty if you overclock the card.

Plus the ACS3 coooler is better than the standard nvidia cooler so in theory you ought to get better overclocks.

Mines now at 650 core and 2200 memory and I still feel it has further to go on the core but i'm going to use some artic silver first before trying for more.

Is it a straight conversion from USD to GBP? if so i can upgrade my GTS 320 to a GTX for £61, which i will be doing if its that cheap!

Not sure on the direct conversion but if tight the GTX price will still need VAT adding on after conversion from dollars so I the difference will be at least an extra £52.50 on top of your £61. There may even be imprt duty to be paid as well.

Best way for sure is email them and ask for the cost in sterling.

Isnt the EVGA shop prices higherish anyway? since thats what the step up goes by if I'm not mistaken.. so if your using the OcUK site for comparison.

No its the their Recommended retail price on their European website, so its in Euros and its almost a rip off.

Yes, that is one amazing card, its won best of 8800 series in a few roundups, i was thinking about upgrading to it but worked out far too expensive and since the 7900gs is handling most things at modest settings i decided against it.

Nope, they use their own recommended retail price which is ALWAYS higher than you can get from a retailer.

I have the ACS3 version of the 320mb GTS. Its awesome, looks great, and cools nice. Got mine running at 650/2000 at the moment.. no problems! Could go higher but dont need it!
