as you can se ive just bought my gtx260 and i got a email of evga today saying the 55mn ones are out after looking the most expensive one is 299.99 dollars but that works out cheaper than what i paid, just say i wanted to change to this one how do they work out the price when you do a stepup, thanks for any info and were would i send it to

They will go by EVGA Europe's prices, and they are extortionate, it will cost you about £130 to go from a 260nm to a 55nm 260, if you paid around £230 for your 260. EVGA take the price you paid for a card before tax is added and then deduct it off the card you want.

do you send your old card back to evga and pay the difference between that and the new step up ?

No, you don't have to go through with it only register within the 90 days to qualify. You do have to send back the old card along with proof of purchase and pay the difference - they let you know when to do this.

As has already been said the prices are extortionate made worse by the current exchange rate. I think EVGA Europe is handled via Germany and the step up prices quoted in euros, hence not a realistic option at the moment.
