Gigabyte is the same and it's pretty poor to be honest especially if it's in the first year. The thing is that your contract is with the retailer not the manufacturer. If you go through the place you bought it then they should pay postage both ways but more and more retailers are fobbing people off to go straight to the manufacturer. Yes, I understand it may be quicker but there is a financial penalty for using this route and most of the time it's not the consumer's fault that something has failed. There used to be a clause in the sale of goods act that stated something like, "The consumer should not be finacially penalised for the return of faulty goods". I don't know if that is still the case though plus like I stated in the begining, the contract is with the retailer not the manufacturer.

Unless you bought it from the manufacturer, they wouldn't have to cover that. Always go to the retailer, even though they try and fob you off to the manufacturer anyway.
