I'm trying to decide between the XFX GTX260 (216) Black edition card and a GTX260 (216) EVGA card.
They are both similar, but the EVGA is £15 more expensive with a slightly higher overclock.
I have read on these forums though that the XFX customer service isn't very good.
I saw a guy on another forum say;

I'd prolly go with an eVGA simply for the fact that:
1) Warranty covers overclocks
2) Warranty covers changing stock cooler
3) Very good customer support
4) Step Up program

Is that true?

If so I think I'll pay the extra and go for the EVGA. I'm trying to make my PC as silent as possible so installing a silent cooler would be ideal but I don't want to do it if it'll void the warranty.

I went with EVGA and a 260/216, their warranty service is first rate and you get free goodies from time to time when you register your product on their website, so far I have got vantage advanced edition and farcry 2 all for free, you also get great resale value with a name like EVGA so they would be my first choice. Regarding XFX, they do have a bad rep customer service wise so I would stay clear, especially if it's a choice between them and EVGA. All you quoted about EVGA is correct.

yerp evga are frist rate i purcased a case 680i from someware else a while back the case usb header shoted and made a burn mark around the header on the 680i (i should have rma'ed them both then i know) when i RMA the 680i one day as it died the e-retailer did'nt want to know dispite what happened earlyer , and they just sent it back to me .

So i email evga one of the guys listed on there website telling him what happened also told them i reapplyed the themal compound on the SB and NB as well as placing some good stuff on the mosfets as well sent th board off to germany week later i had a new one io plate and fan .

if there had a center in the uk would be the only way i see it being better

I've been reading on the North American and European EVGA websites and it seems the European warranty policy is more strict.

This is the North American warranty policy;
# All EVGA Products purchased ON or AFTER November 1, 2006 MUST be registered within 30 days from ORIGINAL DATE OF PURCHASE to receive limited lifetime warranty. (All products not registered within 30 days will ONLY receive a 1 year limited warranty.)
# Removal and or Defacing of Serial/Part number sticker(s) on ANY EVGA products WILL void ALL warranties.
# ALL Defective products sent in for RMA replacement MUST INCLUDE A COPY OF THE ORIGINAL INVOICE / RECEIPT. (Products NOT including invoice/receipt will be returned to the customer at customers expense.)
# Limited Lifetime Warranty is for all retail Graphics Card and Mainboard products ending in the part numbers A1, A3, AR, AX, BR*, BX*, DR, DX, FR, FX, SG, SL, or S2.
* [Replacement products are shipped out as BR or BX and will carry the same limited lifetime warranty that your original purchase had based on your registration.]
** [The Limited Lifetime Warranty does not apply to the inDtube product.]
# All retail Graphics Card and Mainboard products ending in the part number K1 receive a limited 3 year warranty when registered within 30 days from ORIGINAL DATE OF PURCHASE.
# There is no physical damage to the PCB, GPU/chipset, or components that are caused by: Damage due to improper installation, damage during modification of any kind, damage during any type of Aftermarket cooling installation, and water damage of any kind.

And this is the European warranty policy;
This Warranty does not include:

1. Alterations to the Product;
2. Damage to the Product caused by inadequate or improper repairs carried out by any person or entity which is not authorized by the manufacturer to perform warranty services on its behalf;
3. Damage to the Product caused by negligence, accidents, modifications, defective installation or misuse and use of inappropriate spare parts;
4. Damage to the Product caused by fire, immersion in water, lightning, earthquake, inadequate ventilation, Acts of God, incorrect application of main voltage howsoever arising, or any other cause beyond the control of EVGA;
5. Damage caused to any other goods which can be used with the Product, but are not the Product itself;
6. Consumable or wearing items requiring replacement as part of normal service, including (but not limited to) dry cells and rechargeable batteries;
7. Products from which any or all serial numbers have been removed, modified or defaced.

The North American warranty basically only lists actual physical damage to the card, whereas here in Europe it lists far more.

I'm basically trying to decide between the XFX GTX260 Black edition and the new EVGA GTX260 which has come out, they are both very similar in price but the Black edition has a higher overclock. I would like to get the EVGA and overclock it but I don't want to do that if it does void the warranty.

Black edition clocks;
Core Clock: 666 MHz
Shader Clock: 1440 MHz
Memory Clock: 2300 MHz

EVGA clocks;
Core Clock: 670 MHz
Shader Clock: 1242 MHz
Memory Clock: 2304 MHz

The black edition has a higher shader overclock, will that make a significant difference?
I have emailed EVGA and asked them if overclocking does void the warranty.

LOL, EVGA provide their own overclocking utility with their cards, there is also noway to prove a card has been damaged through overclocking and I am sure EVGA would repair/replace any card damaged through clocking.

For our retail Graphics Card and Mainboard products purchased on or after June 22, 2005, EVGA will provide a limited lifetime warranty to the original purchaser of each retail product that the product will not suffer, in material or workmanship, from any defect that adversely affects the performance of the product. This limited lifetime warranty is valid for the life of the retail product, so long as the original purchaser owns the product, based upon the following conditions:

All EVGA Products purchased ON or AFTER November 1, 2006 MUST be registered within 30 days from ORIGINAL DATE OF PURCHASE to receive limited lifetime warranty. (All products not registered within 30 days will ONLY receive a 1 year limited warranty.)

Removal and or Defacing of Serial/Part number sticker(s) on ANY EVGA products WILL void ALL warranties. (Basically the Sticker on Card must match one on the Box).

ALL Defective products sent in for RMA replacement MUST INCLUDE A COPY OF THE ORIGINAL INVOICE / RECEIPT. (Products NOT including invoice/receipt will be returned to the customer at customers expense.)

Limited Lifetime Warranty is for all retail Graphics Card and Mainboard products ending in the part numbers A1, A3, AR, AX, BR*, BX*, DR, DX, FR, FX, SG, SL, or S2.

The last part means if some n00b Chips the Core etc while fitting an After market Cooler or Water Block, they DO let end user remove and swap the Cooler.

Its the same in EU as USA apart from EU laws means Limited Lifetime is 10 years, in USA it is Lifetime.

I don't know where you got that info but I got it after signing into the EVGA website and choosing EU-Eng, its the same for US-Eng anyhow with some extra blab about EVGA paying for postage for RMA for USA/Can peeps.

XFX have crap Support and as soon as you OC that card by 1mhz you have offically ruined the warrenty (obv they wont know), EVGA encourage you to OC and even made a App to do so.

Also they Test all Cores as posted by my review of them a long time back, the really good cores go to the SC/ACS3 etc cards.
