EVGA x79 FTW - RAM issue

1.5. The Vengeance is 1.5v and so is the stock setting on the board (I think, would need to double check, but this is something I've also looked into).

I guess the most annoying bit is, the setup was fine before I put it in the case.

I had it all setup on the motherboard box very briefly to make sure everything worked, and with all the RAM slots populated it booted fine. Saw all 16GB in the bios.

I guess everything will need to come out of the case to start the fault finding process again..

Well /thread as far as I'm concerned.

Removed the board from the case. Still the same problem.

Reseat the CPU twice. Same problem.

Upon closer inspection of the CPU socket, there is a snapped pin. Absolutely gutted but these things happen I guess.

On the hunt for another one now as the colour scheme was based around this! :(

cant you make do with 8gb? does it run fine with that amount of ram? if so id stick with that, board should be fine aslong as you don't install 16gb

It runs with 12gb in absolutely fine. It is happy with 3 sticks, just not 4.

I could definitely make do. But I plan on keeping this build for a while, and would rather everything worked as it should do!

Gutted for you nick ;/ I wish they made the socket better I never liked them pins.

Nevermind eh Joe? :)

Me neither, I've never broken/bent etc any pins on a CPU socket, so really not sure what went wrong here :(

Just hope it hasn't damaged my 3930k!

Would you believe it!

Moved the snapped pin out of the way, pushed it as flat as I could make it, thinking that with it being snapped and bent it was shorting on another pin causing my issue.

Put the CPU back in and all 4 sticks on RAM. Boom. Booted straight into the bios.. Showing all 16GB of RAM.

Happy with that!

Going to get it all set up again properly later on and boot into Windows, then stress test etc to make sure everything is ok.
