EVGA X79 SLI Intel X79

Yep, I'm running a 3820 on this running 106x43=4560mhz... stable. Solid board apart from when overclocking the BCLK it disables all USB ports and the LAN port... as these are linked to the BCLK. Even using the strapping at 1.25, the minimum setting under this ratio is 107mhz and this board fails full stop at this base clock.

Once you work out the bios settings its very easy to overclock loving my build so far :)

@CloneWhat settings you running, did you get your BCLK to go over 106mhz? I just can't get mine going, I reckon this chip is good for 4.8ghz no problem with this cooler, but I just can't go above 106x43... if I go 107x43, black screen... and I can't set the ratio to 1.25 as if I do, the minimal BCLK is 107 and the board won't take it.

What are you running at mate? Also, just realised you're in telford lol, lived there for 3 years while working at EDS... 1997-2003 worked there :-) matheson house hahaha Small world.

EDIT: To update the BIOS, just go to EVGA, download their executable version 39 think it is... and just run in windows mate, does it all for you. Shut down, reboot and hey presto all done.

many thanks m8 i will give it a go and let you no the out come

Also, be aware you have think it's 2 BIOS, so you always have a backup if it did go **** up... however it won't just run the executable and leave the PC for a minute it'll do it all for you. You dont actually have to reboot etc, however I thought I'd shut down and be 100% sure straight away it's worked etc. give us a shout if you need help clocking mate ;-)

I think it's updated it matey, check the date of the BIOS when you go in on the main first screen, should show September think it does anyway...

As for settings... will post in a minute what I did. However, set the multiplier to manual and set to 43. Set the voltage to 1.325 (although you will be able to run stable on 1.25 I think), VDROOP disable...

As for getting LAN back with change in BCLK you can't mate, it disables it... so I bought a cheap USB to LAN converter and use that instead.

Am I reading this right? enabling the 1.25 strap disables the USB and LAN ports?

Sounds like a major design floor as the whole point of the strap is to alter the BCLK for the CPU/RAM only isn't it? Im sure im reading this wrong but if somebody could clarify either way please as im thinking of buying one but this is a deal breaker for sure.

No, by enabling 1.25 strap on the board only allows default settings of BCLK from 107.25mhz upwards (and you can't manually override them... they go from 107.25mhz to 144.75 think it says) and on my board this means no boot as the highest block I can do is 106mhz in BIOS (actually it is 105.65mhz)... you can't select lower so what I'd like to see EVGA do is alter BIOS to allow 1.25 strap BUT allow the BCLK to be editable back to 106mhz... that way I'd get a far higher clock on the CPU... but it won't... BAD DESIGN. What it should do is, enable 1.25 strap, then allow the BCLK to go from 100mhz to whatever... but it doesn't. If you enable the block to 1.65 is it? That only allows for BCLK from 145mhz upwards... mental.

The LAN and USB2 ports won't work if you alter the block from anything other than 100mhz... as it disables the Marvell controller... don't ask me why it's a bug in the BIOS. I've sent EVGA an update on this as it's a joke...

I can take a picture of the various BIOS setting if you want? However, would I reccomend this board? Hard to say, probably not due to flaws like this... and if a board needs 39 BIOS updates, to me this states it was ****e in the first place... polish a turd and all that!

many thanks i did get bios updated 39 all runs like a dream now sat nice @4.6 and lan works as well thans for you help again

thanks for the help i did get 39 bios to work all running nice now sat @ 4.6 with lan all working 100% many thanks again for the help
Mmm, so how did you get 4.6ghz with LAN working? Mine and a mates do not work 100%...??? No matter what we do, if you alter the BCLK above 100 it disables them... and the BCLK above 106 freezes PC.

updated bios in safe mode with 39 bios! now running @ 4.750MHz

Right, I need to know what settings you have mate seriously to get that mhz? Come on, share the love... I know this one will do 4.8ghz at the current temps, I just can't get it to go that way... what settings you using? memory and CPU.

BTW my 3dMark11 is http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/4445013

Just made me think, wonder if it's because I've got 32GB ram.... Mmmmmm...

lol i forgot to add you will need to change
cpy control to manual
x38 multiplier
bclk frequency x1.25 :)
So what is your BCLK set to in the value below 1.25 ratio This is what I dont' get to hit that speed you're hitting of 4750 you need to have 100mhz x 38 x 1.25 for the ratio... but if I alter the ratio to 1.25 in my BCLK settings it alters my BCLK and the minimum I can set is 106.25mhz? Also, what speed ram are you actually using?
