Evo, E39 M5, E46 M3 or FD2?

You could say they were very similar, but you could also say they are nothing alike.

M5 is sheer quality, V8 and incredible pace.

EVO is crap quality, well interior in comparison, turbo charged and rather nutty, not really refined, the X is a bit more but still not M5 refined.

The likeness is the fact they can both ferry 5 passenger, both have 4 doors and both have great pace but they attract very different owners. So like I say similar but worlds apart.
 
When I bought my M's I didn't even consider the ricey thing, why would I? I didn't want the quickest point to point car, I wanted something that would cruise all day at motorway speeds, peformed it's role as a business tool, allowed me to get around stuff when I needed to push on, had refinement when the day had been hard and I just wanted to get from A to B without a fuss and was sensbile to run/service and maintain. At this the Evo was not on the same page, miles off in fact. They are different cars with different targets, end of discussion.
 
I don't care how similar or dissimilar Evo's are to M3's/M5's etc, all I want is something that is a hoot to drive, I'll enjoy commuting in, and can destroy most things on the road A to B on either a back road or on a dual carriageway. Childish I know.

Plus I want it to sound good, take a thrashing now and again and I love being in a head turner. My DC5 gets so much attention, it's untrue, but it makes me feel good about owning and driving my car.

If it's a head turner you're after then an M3 and even more so the M5 don't fit that bill do they? Most people won't be able to tell them apart from the rest of the 3's and 5's on the roads.
 
Drive the M3 and the Evo. Both do a few things really, really well...the M3 is the better all rounder but the Evo loves our roads and weather. Could you extract the very best the M3 offers compared to the Evo? Alternatively, will the Evo leave you cold quicker than the M3? Obviously a personal thing and a thousand other factors aside, both are great cars, then again so is the M5 for a few parts of your brief...all 3 can be test driven with ease so for me it's as simple as doing it.

Of course they are different cars designed with a different ethos as i've said in this thread more than once. I guess I misinterpreted what he was getting at.

im not claiming otherwise....however there is no denying it is a honda civic which will attract a lot of attention. it is different, and at this point in time, a very rare and capable car to own.

M3, M5, Evo etc they are going to attract attention from every Saxo and Fezza around :p

Gaijin rightly said that the Evo's are more of a point to point car - that said I know loads of people who use them to do 30k miles+ per year.


Fox - have you driven an Evo or M5?

You want an EVO then unless your a driving God. :p

As has been said EVO is better suited to our roads and weather conditions, its the quickest A-B car from your selection. Apart from when your pushing past a ton then a lot will struggle to keep with an M3/M5 unless the EVO is pushing past 350ish horses.

But an M3/M5 is a better car to commute in, fact and has a lot more class, but might not turn heads quite as much as an EVO, but the heads been turned will no doubt be chavs and petrol heads.

If you stretch you could grab an EVO X, that does the destroying other cars on the road and is much better for commuting in and power upgrades don't cost the earth.
