I'm pretty much set on buying myself an Evo VIII at the end of the year. I really want the MR version, so I've been looking around at the MR 320.

Is it worth spending more and getting the 340/360? Insurance is managable on a 320, only around 15% more than my ATR, but truth be told I've not run any quotes on the higher powered cars. Apart from output, is there any significant difference between the MR 320 and 340/360 other models that is worth spending more money on buying and undoubtedly insuring?

It'll be by far the most powerful car I've owned, that being a 245 bhp DC5, so I think the 320 would be ample for me.

Final question, how difficult is it to keep the red looking red? I know Japanese paint has a habbit of turning 'pink' if not maintained propely. Is this true of Evo's? I must admit I love the look of the red car with dark wheels/spoiler, with the gunmetal grey being my second choice followed by silver.

Nice one mate. I think I'll hold out for a red MR 320 then, just finding a decent, standard and unmolested one when the time comes. I'm well aware of running costs and AYC pump costs etc, but to me it's really not that bad. The 5th gear synchro on my car could go any moment, and that could be a £1500 bill if you're unlucky, and then you may as well replace the clutch, flywheel etc.

I've driven a few Evo's, a V, an VIII import and an VIII MR 320, so I know how they behave and sound and for me, it's the car I simply 'want' the most. Don't care what it sounds like, to me it's nice.

I daresay when the time comes a IX would be in budget, time will tell though.

I don't want a 260, I want an MR. I don't care about modifications that you can do, I'll be keeping the car factory standard.
