Trading commodities while sneaking past hostile forces, racing the best pilots in the area, mining for diamonds, negotiating for survival, spying for a curious energy company, cleaning dirty solar arrays, transporting an impatient passenger... and that's just on a Monday. The life of an independent mercenary is rarely without excitement. At times, you may choose to work under contract, while at others, you may want to take matters into your own hands in a quest to build your reputation and fortune. Your spacecraft awaits. Your adventure begins in the Sapphire solar system.

In Evochron, you are free to seek your fortune as an independent mercenary in an adventure directed by your choices, abilities, and accomplishments. Each player can bring their unique skills and interests to the game, forming clans for cooperative goals or remaining solo to complete objectives on their own in true freeform space-sim gameplay.

I like that you can fly to ground level, but is this game likely to be more or less complex than X3, as that went over my head completely.

Looks like infinity engine got beaten to the punch. Tho the planets are fairly low scale and appear to be mostly devoid of much detail.

Looks a bit dated IMO (maybe rose tinted specs but the space stuff doesn't look amazingly better than freespace 2?) - although if it has involving, Elite style gameplay, it might be worth a look?

Damn was gonna make a thread about this, i played the demo of arvoch alliance the other day and was quite interested in picking it up.

So i did what i normally do and had a read of the forums and after reading through a lot found out about this game which basically sounded like a mix between freelancer and freespace. So me and a friend have picked it up primarily for the multiplayer had a little go last night, trying to work out the nav system was interesting but managed to sort that now.

Has anyone else picked this up?

I got it last night, net went down just as the download was about to finish so I've yet to play it. Going to fire it up in a moment, just going to read up on the basics to help me get started..

Edit: I see this thread is quite old now, anyone got any feedback for folks who like me have just seen it on Steam?

Its more comparable to X3 Imagine a multiplayer X3 with planet landing but a lot simpler and you only control 1 ship. Its pretty much that you fly around fighting, trading and exploring doing missions etc. Its open world and mostly procedurally generated so quite a small download.

Its a really good game and has some quite challenging combat. I dont think there is much of a story to it, well not one that i have found while playing with a friend. I think the multiplayer is where it is at its quite fun to play with other people.

*quick edit you can also build stations i believe though i have not got this far thus yet.

What ever happened to that game anyway?

I bought this game yesterday because I thought the seamless space <--> planet thing was really cool. I'm not really sure what to make of it yet, so I'm just mining some asteroids outside a station until I can figure out how to use jumpgates to other systems.

Any updates? What do you guys that have bought it think?. The only problem with indie titles is that they dont get reviewed and its hard to judge how good they are.
