Interesting that they choose the 134BHP Elise over the 189BHP Elise.

Give me 8600rpm anyday!!

Infact, give me 8600rpm and a supercharger like in the Exige S anyday!!!!!

Didnt realise the Megane was rated that highly, i took one out for a test drive didnt strike me anything 'special' not compared to the golf gti/focus st's

i dont know jack about cars but aint elises like mazda mx5 ? poor mans sports car, pretty on the outside but only got 1.8litres

Since when has engine size been the major defining factor in if a cars a poor mans sports car or not?

It's amazing how many non-car-people are obsessed with engine size as the be all and end all of performance. The first question they'll ask is 'what litre is it mate'...

Size matters.

As a major league Elise fan I have a poster of a yellow 111R on my wall here...but its amazing how many comments I get from mates who are 'into cars' about it when they see it. Usually things along the lines of 'Elise's are crap, they're only 1.8s, my dads vectra is a 2.2!' or 'have you sat in one? The interiors are crap, you don't get any luxuries or anything'. Trying to explain how both points are entirely missing the point about what the Elise is about is an excercise in futility :(

And are one of the best handling cars availabe? You say only, but the Exige is only 1.8l and it does 0-60 in something like 4.5s (IIRC) as its so light.

I love the elise, but im not sure id fit behind one.

what does matter then for speed in an engine?

Could be wrong as im no expert either, but things that strike me:

-HP (obviosly)
-Torque
-Weight

A lowly 1.8 that produces say 100HP in a car that weighs 500k means 200HP per ton, which is more than a lot of cars produce.
