I saw a thread about ex Man Utd players not making good managers so I thought I would like to share the Chelsea team from about 98 to about 02

Albert Ferrer - Vitesse (no longer)
Dan Petrescu - Kuban Krosnodar
Erland Johnsen - Lillestrom
Di Matteo - MK Dons and West Brom (no longer)
Didier Deschamps - Marseille
Gus Poyet - Brighton
Dennis Wise - Swindon and Leeds (no longer)
Mark Hughes - Blackburn, Fulham, Wales and Man City (no longer)
Gianluca Vialli - Chelsea and Watford (no longer)
Gianfranco Zola - Westham (no longer)
Pierluigi Casiraghi - Italy under 21's
Ruud Gullit - Chelsea, Newcastle, Feyenoord, LA Galaxy, Terek Grozny (no longer)
Steve Clarke - Assistant to anyone
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink - Coach at Forest
Ed De Goey - Coach at Feyenoord

Has anyone ever seen their team produce this amount of players that stay in the game? I'm not saying all are good either(most aren't)

Gus is the best manager out of that lot. I just hope we can keep hold of him.

We should do, as he gets a lot of freedom and plenty of money. The only team that i can see prying him away is Leeds if they have a poor season

I think he will stay as long as the board back him, I don't think he will turn his back on you lot like he did us (Chelsea) when he went to Spurs.

It hurts but I still love him.

I hope so as the Stadium looks great, haven't seen the team but to get promotion you can't be bad or average so maybe a few years to settle in the Championship and then push on for the Premiership, once there I hope the board don't see the ££ signs and continue to invest.

It's why Norwich and QPR are certain to go down, Swansea I think are the strongest to play Premiership football and it will be between them and Wigan as to who makes the third team to go down.

Well yesterday i placed a bet on Brighton winning the Championship!!

£100 at 18-1 which is the best price i could possibly get. Last week when i tried to bet i was put off that they were shorter odds than Leeds:eek:

Ridiculously they were only 4-1 to get promoted at Ladbrokes last time i looked. Shorter than Leeds, Middlesbrough, Birmingham.

They must really be fancied this year for a newly promoted side to be that short, spent a lot of money as well

To win the Championship or just to go up?

I don't know much about the Championship anymore which is a shame as it seems to be far more competitive than the Premiership and the SPL.

If you don't win tell Gus and he may sort you out, clubs love a good sob story for publicity

18-1 to win the championship.

I wanted to bet on just promotion, but 5-1 was just too low for me tbh.

It is a silly start of the season bet that will be an absolute bonus if it happens. I don't expect them to win it, but it is by no means impossible.
I always look for something a bit out there to bet on at the start of the seaon. Last season it was Carrol as top goalscorer

Let's be fair, I was the OP for the Man Utd thread, and to be honest, this list is hardly a scroll of honour!....

I would say that Hughes and Deschamps are both good managers, plus Poyet, Zola and Di Matteo have all showed promise.

Not sure about Wise though, i don't think he will ever make it as a manger tbh

"I wanted to bet on just promotion, but 5-1 was just too low for me tbh."
Yeah I never bet on anything under 10-1 as there is no fun in it for me.

Not really greats of the game but it was merely the amount rather than the substance, maybe it's the self importance they get a the Bridge?

Brighton are only 18-1 to win the league? Mental. Considering how unpredictable the Championship is, that's practically favourites. :p

I like that the second link on googling his name, after the inevitable Wikipedia entry, is exactly what I wondered when I read this thread: Whatever happened to Gianluca Vialli? Not much, apparently.

If Leeds have a poor season I think it's unlikely that he could be tempted to them, especially if we are having a good season!

He has already stated that to leave (without being sacked) he would only be interested in a 'top, top, team'.

Never say Never, but I think he will be with us all the time we are progressing and the Chairman will back him within the realistic financial climate of the Championship.
