Hi

Just ordered a new gaming rig and sold my PS4 (Specs in my signature below)
Not been a pc gamer for quite a few years but excited to gwt my rig delivered in the next 2 weeks!

But im really struggling to decide on a monitor to get!

I have 2 choices that are both 144hz (heard thats good lol) but 1 had G-SYNC and the other doesn't
BUT the price difference is £200 and worry it's just to expensive for a screen!!!

Would the Asus be still a great choice as 144hz and £200 cheaper?
These are the 2...

Thanks :)

Remove those links because the mods will slap your wrists.

But yes, get the Acer - it will be vastly superior with G-sync.

Would a 1440p monitor limit my fps on a 1070?
I want my games as close to ultra settings while still high fps.
Heard 1440p will just about do 60fps with a 1070...don't know if true?

Why I was more tempted by the 144hz 1080p screen (and £200 less price) of the Asus

1070 will do 60fps on most games @ 2560x1440 but you might need to knock back the AA on some games but the 2560x1440 res should negate to need for stupidly high AA anyway. The higher the resolution the less AA you need. i've been playing some games on my 4k 50inch TV and a lot of games you can run with minimal AA settings. But i 1070 will be enough for current games but no one can be sure about future releases you might find it 6 months it's not powerful enough to get 60FPS in the latest titles.

And as you've got a nvidia GPU you might as well get the Gsync Monitor.

I would say most modern AAA games 2014+ you'll have a hard time hitting 144fps at 1440p with a GTX 1070 on maximum settings. I say that because my 980 Ti, similar if not the same in performance to that card, struggles to do do. 60fps though? Easy.

Competitive/multiplayer games however, are generally less demanding (Overwatch, CSGO, LOL, WoW, D3 etc) so frames easily fly pass 120fps in most scenarios.

A single 1070 should be fine at 1440p. G-sync is a must aswell!

You may need to tune settings and to be honest I would. High-ultra usually is barely a noticeable difference.

A 980Ti with games that aren't as taxing it did really well. 120fps+ on bf4, mad max etc. But, even on very taxing games it kept well at 80+fps high/ultra settings. Likes of ROTTR, Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Dying light etc.

Like I said with a few tuned settings 100fps on the majority of games shouldn't be an issue.

did you find at 1440p you could use less AA than compared to 1080p

With a 1440p monitor is it ok to lower to 1080p if a game in the future is sluggish?

You could do but as stated above it won't look as good as 1080p native.

In your position I'd be tempted to go for either the 1440p g-sync or just run 1080p 144hz g-sync with nvidia dsr to up the resolution a bit.

A 1070 for 1080p 144hz will be perfectly fine. I even found upping the res by 5% with dsr made a nice difference to sharpness in games when I had 1080p.

Up to you 1440p does look good but 1080p ultra settings 144hz doesn't look too bad either :)

Going to go for the 1080p monitor and save £200 for now.
Then upgrade at later time as spending almost £1,300 on rig alone

Nvidia dsr....what's that? And was for a noob like me? Lol

Don't blame you for that. 1080p 144hz, you will love it :). Dsr (dynamic super resolution). It's basically an option in the nvidia panel which upscales the resolution in games. So you can upscale from 1080p to 1440p. Gives you added image quality and sharpness close to that of 1440p, 4K.

Yeah spending so much on rig, keyboard, mouse, speakers, headset, desk, chair etc etc lol

This screen will be good for year or 2 :)
