Had a look at a 2010 GSXR750 today and it looked mint. About 7000 miles on the clock. It is for sale at a dealer as an old trade in.

I did a vehicle check and see that from 2010 - 2012 it was not registered and then from 2012 until it was traded in had one owner who did about 1000 miles on it.

The only reason I can think of for the fact it was off the radar for two years was because it was a track bike? Everything is currently stock on it (dealer said it came in with a race can and tail tidy) but they didnt mention it was a track bike (maybe it wasnt, who knows). Will be going in tomorrow to ask them about its first two years and see if there is a service book.

Does anyone have any thoughts about ex track bikes? Its from a dealer and looks mint condition, but I am still wary of these things. Some people say ex track bikes are looked after better, others say they are ragged about and not worth it.

Any thoughts? Will update when I go back to the dealer and ask more questions (no money put down, just went in to see it so no harm done).

Souleh will be along shortly to help.

But I don't see a problem really, although if it's done 6000miles on track then it's well worn!

track bikes are usually maintained better than road bikes anyway, oil changed after every couple of races usually. I wouldn't be hugely worried to be honest, but would be nice to find out either way.

They are generally looked after better, nobody wants to be crashing at 150+ as a result of poor maintenance, but then some people are idiots so its worth giving it a good look over :)

The only other option for it not being a track bike would be a kept in dealer storage and not being registered but it was brought in private so that's that out the window :p

In NZ insurance is optional but expensive for bikes. A mate has told me some kiwis buy bikes and don't register them and just use them on the road! All I know is that at first registration it had 10 on the clock and when the second person bought it the clock showed 7000 and then the dealer bought it at 8000 the current figure. Would think that 7000 miles in two years is a lot of track time! Is that even possible?!

Registration and insurance are the two expenses so if it wasn't a track bike it was just used for 7000 miles on the road illegally without a registration. Stupid, but in NZ you can ride for miles and not see another car let alone a police car so a lot of people apparently do it :S I only found out about it this evening. I'm still popping into the dealer to find out more and see if they have any idea!

And yes Fireskull! A Suzuki!

I didnt go for it in the end. The dealer came back saying they "forgot to check it was registered before they bought it off the last owner". It also appears to have been dropped on its right side and touched up. So many red flags that it simply isnt worth it!
