Wondered if getting another set of TR3x6G1600C9 and placing in slots 2,4 and 6 is possible to bring the memory up to 12Gb at a reasonable cost of one supplier who I saw at £55. Any other suggestions to increase the memory of this old but still running okay PC from Overclockers. I did notice after I removed a stick to see the code and then placed back and watched the PC boot up that where it previously said 1333 memory speed it is now saying 1066. Any suggestions to return it to the original value. Kind regards.

What’s remarkable is you joined in 2009 but this is your first post?! Given you are asking about X58 it feels like you forgot to hit enter until 2026.

Joking aside, these boards will run 24GB. You can find 24GB kits on eBay and the like. Depending on the CPU sometimes it’s trickier to run them at 1600+ usually 1333 is stable and fine. You would need to enter the BIOS at startup and manually adjust the memory speed.

Thanks for the reply rare Obviously joined in case of problems and the old girl has chugged away quite happily for many years so no need :) and it's just the newer games and the necessity for bigger memory has exposed her shortcomings. Have you any manufacturer's names or is a case of putting EX58-UD5 and 24Gb into a search and see what pops up. Thanks again for the help.

You can stick the board into a memory configurator and then try a search on the used market for those models:

Looks like X58 boards are capable of supporting 48GB (officially 24GB), but memory compatibility can be iffy with the newer sticks.

it's a @rare post, isn't it?

unfortunately the old girl's shortcoming has come at the worst time possible, with ballooning RAM prices
you have 6gb ram at present, the cheapest way is to drop in another 3x 2gb sticks to bring you up to 12gb ram but this is kinda anaemic even by today's standards
i think the best (not the cheapest) is to get 3x 4gb sticks and run it with your current 3x 2gb sticks to give you a total of 18gb ram

but as pointed out, mixing ddr3 sticks and filling up all the ram slots can be a bit of a PITA in terms of "just" getting it to work
i do think it is worth it though

Sorry for the late thank you Tetras but your info is appreciated
@StephenF If you haven't got hold of anything yet then I've got a couple of 6GB triple channel kits I could send to you if you'd like which would get you up to 12G, not ideal but would save you spending anything...I also feel like using a system for that length of time needs to be rewarded in some small manner :P

Hi Scott Thank you for the offer - Where I'm at currently at is I checked on ebay for Kingston KVR1333D3N9 4Gb and got 4 sticks over some days. Getting the first two and installing seemed to clash with the corsair so removed the corsair as 8Gb improved on the original 6Gb and then looked for a third which when installed a few days later the pc ran at 12gb and the game I was hoping the memory increase would help did now plays. Going for a fourth to give me head room and placed in the first white slot and Belarc says there are four 4Gb but Task Manager is saying only using 12Gb (I tried the other slots knowing that wasn't an acceptable combination but pc wouldn't boot at all). Any help on a possible next step.

Did you follow the guide on page 16 of the manual?

Ideally you want to use the same dimms, mixing brands and capacities can cause some problems especially when using all the slots (these are tripple channel as well).
