EX58-UD5 with 5870 Crossfire

am i right to assume that running a card in the first blue pcie and running the second card in the orange x8 leaving pcie 2 free it will still run at 16 & 8 or 16 & 16?

Yes you are right, x16 x8 - Because the maximum speed PCIEX8_1 (the orange one) can run is x8.

I'll try those suggestions - thanks ejr22

Last ditch attempt before it goes back then - they've said its most likely a motherboard fault but I'll try your suggestions first!!

Must have been thinking of the Init Display First option.

Have you tried setting this to PEG2? - Sets PCI Express graphics card on the second PCI Express x16 slot (PCIEX16_2) as the first display.

Long shot but other than that it will be another RMA.

Stupid possibility - Have you updated GPU-Z to the latest version? I know when I first got my HD5870 at the weekend I had an older version of GPU-Z installed, it didn't recognize anything apart from the name of the card.

It could be a GPU-Z quirk rather than a motherboard fault.

(I have the same MB by the way).

PCI-e 1 is the slot nearest the CPU which is 16x speed

PCI-e 2 is the next PCI-e down which is 16x speed UNLESS you have something plugged into the 3rd PCI-e then it slows to 8x speed

PCI-e 1 is the slot nearest the bottom of the board which is always 8x speed.

am i missing something here or has no-one noticed what this chap is saying, slot 3 is ALWAYS x8, you need to plug them in slots 1 and 2 for both to be @x16
