excel and word tables converting them to html?

I am using wordpress to design a school website. There are loads of pages of information that are currently in Excel or in Word that I would like to put directly onto the pages of the website instead of getting people to download excel and word documents.

Is there any way of transferring this information so that it is html compatible?

I tried something similar with Excel and saved the page as an html document from the save as option but it saved the whole thing as an image.

Easiest way I found was to copy the Excel table into Dreamweaver design view and then copy the html into the page you need.
