Excel: Filtering using a check box

Good afternoon,

I am having some trouble filtering on an Excel spreadsheet; I would like to filter some data using a check box instead of the ordinary drop down auto filter option i.e. click on each column heading and be presented with a check box of items which once confirmed then refresh the remaining rows/columns.

I have seen this done using pivot table options but am not having much luck. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

All sorted...

An option in the PivotTable Field was subtotalling every column which was distorting the format.
