I've got a spreadsheet detailing a few thousand items, each has it's own line with the number of that item in column H.

I need to split these out so that each item is listed the number of times shown in col H, then amend the count to indicate 1, so I'm currently going through this by hand but it is extremely laborious and may take me to the end of the year.

Can anyone advise of any way I could do a macro to do this directly?

I'm slightly confused can you give an example or attach a subset of the data (.xls) file.

No need, I've managed to persuade one of my compatriots to spend some time on it and he has provided me with some ideas to look into which have paid off.

I now know a little bit more VBA than I did 24 hours ago
