Excel: IF statement to change cell colour if number is greater/lesser than?

I have a group of numbers in excel ranging from 1000 to 5000 and want an IF statement to make it so if the number is higher than 2800, the numbers change green and if below 2800 they change red.

Any ideas?

The easiest way to do it is with conditional formatting - select the cells containing the numbers then pick Conditional Formatting from the Format menu, add the conditions in the box and you're done.
