excel on mac help

Have just bought a mac and having little trouble with adjusting , i basically i need to select 4 columns , three of the colums are together but one is not next to them, i assumed shift would mean i could select it but it does not seem to work, any help please

Use the CMD key instead. Select the three, hold CMD and hit the fourth.
