I've got a user who is curruntly experiencing a strange problem with Excel in Office XP Pro 2003. The user's OS is XP Pro SP2 with current updates.
When the user opens an Excel file or a new blank workbook, if they go into Tools, Options and then try to select any of the tabs there, such as save, they get the following error message :
"Cannot access directory (location of directory)"
I've checked in the location that it points too and everything appears to be correct there. I've tried a detect & repair as well as uninstalling and re-installing Excel by itself but the problem persists. This leaves completley unistalling and re-installing the Office suite to try, which I don't really want to do as it's inconvinient for the user and it appears that this may not solve the problem anyway.
Now the research I have done suggests that it could potentially be a profile problem as we do use roaming profiles but again rebuilding the user's profile is the last thing I want to have to do. I have also read that there may be a way to get around this in the registry under "current user\software\micosoft\office\excel\options" that can be used to reset this but I cannot see anything there that would allow me to do this there.
Any help is gratefully appreciated as this has got me stumped at the moment.
