Excel Workings - how does the Microsoft Family Tree Generator work?

Hello,

Under what's new for Windows 10 October update this excel template is provided:

I have tried to look behind it to see how the "calculations" are done but can find any behind the scenes formulae etc. e.g. how does it get the drop down list of parents to appear, etc.

I have tried "show formula" but nothing appears - the spreadsheet workings must be able to be un-hidden in some way?

Maybe dynamic data validation.

You can force data validation from a list of values elsewhere in the spreadsheet.

If you used names ranges in the references for the data validation, and are careful with how you enter data to the lists, you can make data validation in cells dynamic based on user inputs elsewhere.

Well - I have sort of found it - if I click on "developer" in options that appears on the ribbon and I can select view VBA, it shows there are 5 hidden spreadsheets and a fair amount of VBA. I can select "visible" to see them - but there is too much code to make sense of without printing it all out. I was hoping to make mods but my knowledge of VBA isn't that good. Humph.
