On my Desire I can't seem to set up an activesync account with my server. All the details seem correct but I get "Failed to connect to the Exchange server. Please check the Exchange server settings".

Any ideas what to do?

Normally I'd suggest checking firewalls, port forwarding and so forth but then it's you so I presume you know what you're doing :)

I've not tried it with Exchange 2007 as yet but have set up a few Desires for Exchange 2003 without any problems.

OK, we had a couple of issues here.
One iPhone and one Desire would refuse to connect to our Exchange 2010 server when everyone else was working fine.
We found that doing the following solved the problem:

AD Users & Computers > View > (Enable) Advanced Features
Open the Properties of the user having problems
Go to the Security Tab and select Advanced
In the Default Permissions tab enable the "Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent"
Wait for the AD to fully sync (give it 10-15 minutes) and try to sync the phone again.

This worked for us on the two devices listed above.

Well chances are it'll be something stupid I've missed anyway.

I'll add some more details I've missed. The problem is adding them externally only. I can successfully add them if they're on the internal WIFI, but then I can't sync mail once off site. I've tried to check port forwarding etc, and I can access the /Microsoft-Server-Activesync directory via SSL (gives me the password prompt) on a different machine, but I can't seen to access it from the device.

No luck unfortunately. Thanks anyway.
