We have a new Exchange 2010 server - a HP affair.

When it was installed the external IT guy who installed it only used 1 of the Lan ports although it has 4.

Is there any reason why these 4 lan ports cannot not be "teamed" or does it upset Exchange 2010 in some way?

The machine also acts as the primary DC

Thanks for that - I couldn't work out why when the guy did it he didn't team them up.

I'll look at it on a weekend so it doesn't affect many/any users.

He probably didn't team them because 1gbit is more than enough, going on the assumption that you're company infrastructure isn't very large considering you are running exchange ad DC on the same box.

What do you want to get from teaming them? does each nic go into a different switch?

Ideally. You either do it for resiliancy or throughput or both. HP sw does transmit (so only data sent) load balancing with fault tolerence by default. You can configure switch based load balancing if your kit supports it to get transmit\receive balancing.

OP is the box a virtual host?

Should have no issue at all. Configure the team with the same ip it currently has.

I would say don't bother teaming unless you have a large setup or performance issues.

It will just cause issues, don't do it unless you need it, who cares if an email takes 3seconds to get from one user to another or 6 seconds
