Hi,

Ive just noticed that on our mailbox server, that the size of the databases for various mailboxes has ballooned!
For example, one database has 6 people in it, maximum size of 2Gb per mailbox, only one has an archive, the size of the database is 90Gb!!!!

I did assuming its something to do with deleted items not getting deleted, but a powershell command showed that the retained items to be Mb's in size. So its not that.
The logs are on a different drive, and the backups are pulling them off as expected (using DPM 2012). & Archiving is off too.
Checking the size of each user in the database, totals under 10Gb, so where is this other 80Gb coming from!

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Just created a new DB, migrated all the users out of it, size is 27Gb. Still bigger than i would have thought, but still 60Gb less.

Odd issue.

Wonder why this is happening?

EX DBs don't reclaim white space unless you do an offline defrag of them. Also in EX2010 they got rid of single instancing, so say loads of people have a 2Mb attachment that someone sent out, they all have a copy of that, as opposed to being stored once, referenced many times.

Could have sworn SIS was still in 2010.
Ive done some googling, and theres a white space issue that they broke in SP1, fixed with SP1 u1, broke with SP2, and now theres a SP2 u1 out that im gonna install later today and hope it fixes the issue pro-actively.

How is an offline defrag achieved?
