The IT the company I work for is migrating 1 of our clients email from the local exchange server to Office 365 and SharePoint on the cloud. We are in the process of moving all there public folders to the new SharePoint. However, in the folder structure there is about 100 items or folders each contains varying amounts of data.

Management at my company won’t pay for a program that will migrate it for us in an automated way; we’ve looked at paid for programs like MetaVis but at nearly £2000 a license. I’ve had a look on line for cheaper options or free but not had much luck.

Would somebody be able to advice on the best way to migrate the public folders to SharePoint

On local Exchange to Sharepoint migrations, we use a set of PowerShell scripts we've written in house.

The main 'pain point' with Public Folders is maintaining the correct permissions between the two services. You're going to have trouble doing this on a budget under £2000, so it's better, cheaper and easier to use their migration software.
