I've been having issues on and off with BT. My phone line crackles from time to time and causes my internet to drop off for a second or so. Sometimes this will be a disconnect every 24 hours of so, sometimes when really bad picking up the phone can disconnect my internet.

This went on and off for months and after many visits they traced the problem down to the network card software in the exchange. My problems started last september when they updated it and they changed it in april and I've been fine since, until this weekend.

Sometime this week I'm going to have to start the battle all over again.

I'm thinking of changing provider but there are no other providers with their own equipment in the exchange. So my question is if I change provider will I even get moved in the exchange or is it likely I will end up with another provider and the same problem with the network card?

I dont mind changing but I dont fancy my chances of getting issues fixed with the BT exchange if I'm not with BT.

If you change to an ISP using BT Wholesale then nothing will happen at the exchange. The only way to be sure you will be on physically different kit exchange side is to move on to an LLU ISP.

I'm with ADSL24 and had the same problem as you, my ISP provider called BT and got someone sent out the same week. He did a few tests on my line, found a problem, then went to the exchange and sorted it!

BT are one of the worst ISPs out.

Then I'm screwed really because even if I switch to another provider I wont be moved. I'm going to have to try my best to get moved from that card as none of my neighbours have an issue. Which is a shame because other than that I get 7.5mb and 400 up which aint too shabby for adsl.

Yeah I've had more problems with this BT line than in the 7 years I was with cable but I have no other option really because the fault would occur with whoever I was with :(

It bugs me that the whole village is on Virgin cable but because I'm on a new street in the village there is no cable. I wish they would invest in laying some more :D

Get yourself with ADSL24, get them to fix the line then once cable is enabled leave! you're not on a 12 month contract with them it's just a monthly rolling contract.

That bit of advice for adsl24/enta is not strictly true as it is a 1 month contract but to leaev you must be there for over 1 month or pay £58.75 to leave as its not deemed as 30 days service.

I thought I better tell you that as this is what I was billed for for leaving within the 1st month, 25 days service. I think BT are just rubbish & if there are no other isp's like llu ones then adsl24 is great.

What are your problems anyway? as mine is line card related (telephone side) and no matter what adsl24 or O2 will ever do will fix it till they get the line card swapped. if you get dropouts try a filtered face plate or an Iplate if you have extensions or even replace the RJ11 cable. I'm now unable to play games as it forces my line to drop but if I just surf & dl it doesnt so I hope you have more luck than I did with openreach.
