Ok Ive installed exchange server 2003 and have been referring to the microsoft video tutorial to get me by. Can be found here if anyone is interested http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=21503

I think exchange server is installed properly however some of the settings appear to be missing. Can anyone help?

Thanks for any help, Mark

Edit - The screen shot is a guest account but its the same for all active users

Are you accessing AD from the same server that Exchange is installed on, as you will only see the exchange extras from either an exchange server, or a server with the exchange admin pack installed.

Guest always looks like that, as it has no mailbox.

It looks like when you have added users to the AD that the "Create an exchange mailbox" box wasn't selected or didnt ask you.

Try right clicking on the user and select "exchange Tasks"
follow the wizard and it will ask if you want to do several things, like create mailbox, or an email address etc. select "create a mailbox" and follow the instructions. Afterwards you should have the extra Exchange options for the user in AD.

Maybe to an expert like you :P

I have set up a "test" user and set his email address up etc. Went into the email account settings via control panel and set up the server name etc and no errors came up. When I went into outlook it said it was loading email settings, again no problem. I tried to send a test message to a user with on our network and a external email (my personal account). Neither of them got delivered so I started to think, dangerous I know!! I havent set up anything in exchange such as pop3 details or smtp details or anything other than the organisation. Presumably this is where the problem lies? What settings need sorting?

Thanks again for all the help

You would need to set up either a POP3 account or a SMTP account. Without these, exhange has no idea where to send the emails, so they will sit in the message queue waiting.

Are you connecting to your emails form an ISP or direct from the internet?

I actually managed to send one to my personal email. I have no idea how I did it, I hadnt changed any of the settings but it worked.

Im not quite sure what you mean about isp or internet direct? I havent been in touch with my isp or anything so I pressume its the latter?

What he means is, does your ISP host your mail ( if for domain, do your company's MX records point at your ISP), or do you host your own mail solution?
