Exchange Server?

I have a server running running Windows Server 2003.

I'm using the integrated POP3 service to manage email but it is very temperamental, plus it goes through SPA which my Android phone doesn't like.

However I keep hearing about Exchange Email Servers which Android does support as do all desktop email clients i've seen.

But how do you set one up? What does it consist of? Do I need to use Active Directory?

Thanks

Bit overkill for one user and are you going to outlay 600+ for a copy?

Well i didn't know what it involved etc lol.

Are there any alternatives to the standard POP3 component in Server 2003, one that is better supported on other devices at all

Maybe a good opportunity to learn linux? Could setup qmail to do it all for you.....

i've been tempted to try a linux server, wasn't sure how well it'd work though.

My network consists mostly entirely of Windows PC's and the server would need to handle file and print sharing, website hosting and occasionally hosting online games(though i'm thinking of getting another server to do this role)

You could use Samba and Apache to do that. I thought many game servers were linux anyway? Do you have huge bandwidth?

There are linux varients of game servers. I'm quite new to servers and linux so not sure if its the best mix for me.

our net connection is 50mbps down and 5mbps up

however due to logistics of the server being upstairs it is connected wirelessly, which isn't ideal
