I know when you put Windows into standby, it powers down everything, including the harddrives drives. To relieve the harddrives of unnecessary wear and tear when spinning up, therefore making them more reliable, I want to keep them on constantly.
The only way I can think to do this, is rig up a seperate power supply which constantly powers the harddrives. But I suspect Window would send a power down command to the drives, and/or cuts the power completely when in standby.
So - can it be done? I know people will probably tell me I am silly for my thoughts, but my few harddrive failures have always been during power up and they refuse to spin up.
Just to add a little more confusion, could the above be achieved after a set amount of time?
