I installed a new CPU recently along with a Alpenföhn Brocken ECO CPU Cooler and I have a feeling I screwed it up. I don't have any CPU cleaner on me at the moment (got some on order after I realised that) but am wondering... do I need it if I only just put the stuff on two days ago? I'm not sure if it will need cleaner at this point, but thought I'd check to be certain. No harm in waiting one day for the cleaner... I suppose... but having a day off work and a newly upgraded PC leaves me wanting immediate resuls. Eh heh... :D

EDIT: Figure I'll clarify a bit on why I feel I've screwed it up.

It's a i7-4790k and it's running 35-40 degrees idle (stock, no OC) and when I play FFXIV, it jumps to 80 and even to 100 if I'm in a busy fight. Needless to say it sounds a bit extreme considering my old CPU managed to hit 80 at most that I can recall. Not sure if you guys have any other suggestions or things to check in the BIOS or whatever, just in case I'm even more ignorant than I thought.

that's pretty high on stock :(.....my old i5 at 4.4OC is about 27 degrees on stock.

you need to remove the cooler clean it all up and replace the thermal paste, dont use too much.

one other major problem, that 4790 runs hot anyway, this is due to badly applied cheap and nasty thermal paste under the Lid.... you can only correct this by de-lidding it, because if you dont; there isn't a cooler out there that'll help you that much.....yes it really is that bad

if my 4770 is still running too hot after i've spent flipping ages lapping and lidding it, then it will go straight in the bin :mad:
