Hi, on my S2000, when im slowing down in 3rd or second the exhaust either in the middle or on the back boxes seems to make a louder vibrating kind of sound than when in other gears. Would this just be down to the exhaust being lose? or is this normal lol.

the noise is there when letting off the gas ( coasting ) not a good thing i know. ( fuel economy lol ) when in them specific gears aswell

Could be rattling off a heatshield. Get it on a ramp and take a look. :)

By coasting in gears I assume you mean engine braking?

It's probably the exhaust resonating as you are slowing down and catching the bulkhead or some other nearby element.

It probably does it as you change up as well, but you pass the rev point at which the exhaust resonates too quickly when accelerating.

Try to recreate it by holding the revs at certain points. Get under it and try to look for potential contact points and bolster them with rag or such.

Since I fitted a decat to the teg it rasps between about 2-4k rpm and pops when you change gear at high revs.

If your car has always done it then its probably just a feature of the exhaust. Get it up on stands or on a ramp, blip the throttle and see if its leaking or rattling anywhere.

offtopic but i've added you to msn, you're never online?! new addy?
I don't use it much, only when I'm at home in Wiltshire. I work at Stansted doing nights usually 10 days on and 2 or 3 off.

I'm on my days off at the moment so will be on msn later, going out for a drive seeing as the suns out :D

Neil.
