Hello,

I have a HP Storage Works 60 MSA. It's currently configured in RAID 5 and giving 558Gb of usable storage.

We are starting to get a little low on disk space and need to look at expanding the array.

Looking in the HP Array Config Utility there is a 300Gb "spare" hard drive listed. I believe the spare disk will jump into life if one of the current drives in the RAID 5 array fails.

Is it possible to take the spare 300Gb drive and add it to the currently live array and expand the space ??

Any other info/advice would be welcome.

Thanks Ben :)

It might bes possible but you would give up the hot spare drive. Whoever setup the RAID set it up that way for a reason. You should be able to purchase extra drives and then expand the drive.
