Expected FPS?

So my new rig arrived today - got the best I could for my budget.

As per my signature, does any one have a similar setup, or could hazard a guess at my expected FPS on Battlefield 3 on ultra?

Currently don't have a 1080p monitor. Running at 1280x1024 on a 19" monitor, but expecting a 120hz 1080p to arrive shortly.

To make best use of your 120Hz 1080p screen you will need to go to a lower custom quality setting. I did on my old 670 even when heavily o/c'ed.

You really need to try to keep you FPS well over 60 minimum to enjoy the most fluid movement.

Your i5 will limit you somewhat as BF3 loves extra threads on i7's. O/C it as far as you can which will help a lot. 4GHz should be easy.

TBH if your playing the game high settings (rather than Ultra) and consistently high frames will be better. Ultra can be kept for showing your console owning mates! ;)

i5 wont limit him at all people really should stop with this hypthreading nonsense people have benched this on these very forums and there are many articles showing in bf3 even older phenoms unless in sli or crossfire can match higher intel cpus.

hypthreading intel sales crap :D

someone guy benched on here difference in bf3 same cards i5 3570k and i3770k 1 minute bench marked runs less than 1 fps difference ! same gpu.

Wrong again, I went from an i5 to and i7 and minimum fps improved noticeably, I'm not the only one to notice this either.

wrong again many have benchmarked it to show it in timed proper benchmarks.

did you benchmark it or just look at random fps ?

Many of them benchmarks are max or average fps. With my i5 I would drop below 60 quite often, it happens very rarely now, so unless there was something wrong with my i5 or it was unstable which I doubt it was as it passed prime for hours on end then an i7 definitely benefits certain setups.

Look what he wrote for BF3 - The most notable thing was the 55 FPS minimum for the 3570k compared to the 60 FPS minimum on the 3770k.

its a couple of fps whatever you say minimum or maximum and the i3770k will still drop below 60 in a big 64 man game regardless.

if you can notice 2-5 fps with your eye or feel your good very good.

5fps can be noticed once you start going under 60fps, if 5 fps was nothing then people wouldn't bother overclocking as that's about the most you'll acheive from a good overclock.

if you haven't already don't forget to set the fps limit via the user cfg file, and as mentioned play around with the settings to see what you can put onto low and not notice any major difference.

You'd have to be a bit of a plonker to fork out double the price for 5 fps, though.

Well of course if you were just doing it for BF3, but it can have a much bigger effect in different games/software.

Definitely worth getting an i7 for video/software editing and game design, but there isn't a actual game out there at the minute which properly utilizes hyper threading to the extent of an i7 being better value than an i5 for gaming. So many people own i7s though and there aren't that many software designers in the world so we have a lot of plonkers. :p

the thing is 60 fps argument doesn't stand cause the 3770k will also dip below 60 fps so its a mute point.

No it does stand as I told you when I upgraded it doesn't drop below 60 anywhere near as much as it used to. Also it's moot point not mute.
