Hi,

Has anyone used both GTX680 and 7970? Which one would you prefer and why?
I know that performance wise they are about the same, so I am talking about general feelings

I've had several (lost count) 680's 2Gb and 4Gb which I used in Sli and TriSli

Changed to Crossfire 7970's for better performance at high res(surround)

Overvolting was a nice bonus :D

I have a GTX 560TI in another rig and had a 6950 in this rig before swapping it out for a 7870.

I wouldn't argue one brand is better that the other.

Its a straight choice of who gives you more for your money.

So no clear advantage one over the other apart from performance?

To be honest I do have a 7970 DCII Top which plays everything fine with full quality at 1080p. However I have always been curious as to what would GTX680 offer...Physx would be nice, but I cant see any great game -that I like- using it.

if you already have a 7970 and it works in the games you play then there's not much point in swapping to a 680... you could however get something like a GTX460/560 and run it as a physx card if you really wanted physx

I have ran a 680 and now have a 7970 (my second!) both great cards but the 7970 wins because of it's value. no real point in the 680. I bought a 680 as it was the fastest at the time, now it is not and I sold it for enough to cover the cost of a 7970 which came with free games that I wanted too so was well in pocket.

To run 7970 and a geforce for physx you don't need any modified driver, just get hold of an app called hybridize and it all just works, only game that doesn't is planetside 2 but I don't even think it's enable in the latest build anyway. I have tried both Batman games, borderlands 2 , metro 2033, Hawken. Physx works well and looks pretty awesome.

There isn't any good enough to run with your 7970 in PhysX.

I used a custom passive 9800GT with 6950>70, it was fine on high Physx.

Put it in with the 7970 and it doesn't cut it on high to the extent that it causes dips when heavy PhysX is happening-it's sort of bottlenecking the combination in some way, turned it down med/low and it was better, with less PhysX effects.

A used £40 460 if you can find one would be ideal, then get a Accelero Twin Turbo II £30, take the fans + shroud off and see if running it passive is possible, if not then put the shroud back on, it's very quiet anyway.
