Hi, I was just wondering if anyone here has any experience with Multiplay UK's Minecraft Servers. I was thinking about purchasing one. Are mods easy to install, are updates applied to the server quickly? And how's customer support? And how is the lag, is there any? And other tools are available if there are any.

Thanks, CheesySpread

The OcUK members server has been hosted there for 4 months or so although we've now switched to FrenchTarts dedicated box.

Mods are selected through a drop down box although it'll be up to you to configure them and make none of them conflict.

Updates are one area where they are reasonably slow as they still use hey0 server mod rather than bukkit. This means they have to wait for one of their dev team to update there version of hey0 which can take a week or two although they normally offer the option of the latest update with no hey0 but means you have no mods. They are talking about moving to bucket but seem to be dragging their heels somewhat.

Customer support is good with tickets answered quickly.

We experienced some lag at peak times on a 24 player server.

Multiplayer offer Free mumble server with their servers and theynhave their own server management web portal Clanforge. This let's you install mods, updates and backup the world, restarts the server and download world files etc.

I've had a 10 player MC server with MP for a couple of weeks now. The experience has generally been very positive, given that I was running a server of my main PC. The fact that they run off SSD's mean that the game is quite smooth. I am rather happy with the experience so far vs running the world on my own PC.

Lag is pretty much non-existent atm, although you have to bear in mind that our 'world size' is rather small when compared to Windle/OCUK's world and of course we have just 10 players. So far, lag hasn't been a problem aside from a friends monster spawner, which makes me stutter like mad when I go near it.

Updates - Agree with Windle. MP uses a server wrapper by the name of hMOD, which I believe has now stopped receiving updates from it's author hey0. They are due to move to the superior Bukkit wrapper at some point 'soon'.

MP use a 'Clan Forge' control panel for server management, which I am not too keep on. It can be slow and cumbersome despite having good features.

Customer Support - No idea yet, but their Minecraft forum has a very active bunch of mods/techies who can all help you out with any issues.
