Seeing the state of new releases, it would be a nice thing to have some place (sticky topic(s) or something) that specifically deals with official patches and if they really help significantly.

This would mean that the poor sods here who take it upon themselves to play these games in their new state, post their impressions for the benefit of the rest of us.

I've been looking for some site that has this sort of information bundled, but if there is some such place, I haven't found it.

As a latest example 'Empire: Total War' could greatly benefit. I've shelved it and am waiting for a patch, but before going through the process of investing a lot of time in it, possibly to find out it's still too quirky, I'd like to hear the impression of others who are braver and more patient than I am.

What do you think, should we try and organise such a thing?

Well you will be first to hear any such information on official forums for whichever game you want to know about... Empire Total War being on steam you will auto download it through that anyway (as well as getting the notes).

I think it would be a big job for one person to handle, keeping track and updating a thread for patch notes which will be on a large number of games (if you go by any with a reasonable player base) whether they even play them to begin with.

I see it as a Challenge & quite enjoy the process of learning how to best run a new game on my system. I also enjoy passing on what I've learnt via threads on here.
I am also stuck up enough to believe that most users can't even get there systems to run windows properly let alone the latest titles :p
I Never find it hard to get the info I need & can't really see how you struggle
Live & Learn as they say ;)

Also,
We want the games out as soon as poss so we accept a little tweaking & a few probs. You can't have it both ways can you.

I think you're missing my point.

I'd like to have reliable information on whether OFFICIAL patches make a game playable or not. This information will only be supplied reliebly by the users, and experience shows that official forums tend to weed out uncomfortable posts.

Another example would be the new 'X3: Terran Conflict'. This is a slow game and it could take several days of playing after patching unti you actually encounter the big show-stopper. Information like that cold be invaluable, and that sort of thing is what I'm talking about.

I'm not talking about tweaking a system for better performance, I'm talking about BUGS!

I'm also not talking about tinkering about trying to get a game to do what was originally intended, that would be endless.

????? 'We want the games out as soon as poss so we accept a little tweaking & a few probs'. This is a joke, surely?
