Experiences moving router to different location within house

So basically I want to move our router from our living room to a room upstairs that I'm making into an office, and I want to also run a flat ethernet cable under the carpet from the new office to a bedroom on the other side of the house, so that that room also has a wired connection. What is the easiest and cleanest way of doing this?

Here's what I'm thinking: Get Virgin out to move the termination point from the front of the house on the ground floor, to the other side of the house on the first floor. Then, take up all the carpets and lay a flat ethernet cable all the way to the back bedroom. Then, put the carpets back down. Does anyone have any experience doing a job like this, and in particular with laying an ethernet cable under existing carpets that I'm going to need to put back down. I can see this potentially turning into a nightmare where I'll end up with bare floorboard and needing to put new carpets down!

Bearing that in mind, would I be better off with a good wireless router, or perhaps running an ethernet cable into the loft or even externally around the house?

What exactly are you trying to achieve? As above VM most likely won't move it. If you're just trying to get ethernet/wireless in the office, run an ethernet cable from the VM hub to the new room, then either a second router with DHCP server off so it's just extending the VM network, or switch + access point.

None of the rooms have pre-existing VM boxes unfortunately. Although VM apparently will move the box for a nominal fee of £25. I'm thinking my best bet is to move the box to the office, and a cable from there into the loft, coming back down near the bedroom at the back of the house where I need the second ethernet connection.

what i did was ran a cable from the router around the outside of the house to the room/rooms i wanted to have ethernet in. I left the router in the living room as that is where the phone line comes into the house. No hassle with running cables trough the inside of the house like lifting carpets/floor boards etc etc

Few years ago I moved the Virgin hub from living room to attic room where my home office is setup. Bought the same cable Virginie from Amazon and ran the cable from the outlet to attic.

I used to bury the cables in the walls, but these days I can't be bothered. I just use a little trunking and paint over it. A coat of Zinsser BIN and you can just use the same paint you used on the walls.
