Hopefully this will be quick, and sorry if these are stupid questions. My Google-Fu is failing me..

I received an SP30 (and 3 points) in March 2010. I understand that these points have now "expired".

1. Am I correct in assuming that, as far as the DVLA are concerned, these 3 points no longer exist and therefore, for example, I could receive 9 more tomorrow and I wouldn't be banned?

2. Do I need to faff around having them removed from the license? Is there a downside to not bothering to do so by following the DVLA's (typically) archaic procedure? Is my driving license not considered "clean" until I do?

Thanks!

you dont need to get them removed, its just a case of if you want to but they have expired. some times they do it in pencil.. so you can just rub it out haha!
other wise you have to send it off and pay £60 for it to be removed.

they only last four years, used to be three

what a scam though having to pay to have them removed from the paper part

I had to send mine off for something else - no idea what as it was years ago now, but it came back with a line through my 4 years+ points.

I already had to have a new one because I lost the paper counterpart - it came back with them printed on instead of written on like last time.

OK so if I don't have to be arsed to post (lol) the DVLA a cheque (lol) for £20 (lol for a piece of paper?) just to have them removed for no real benefit, then I shan't. Thanks :)

there is no real benefit.

I had to have a DVLA license query done via conference call when needing to make a claim on the insurance. I've still got my ban on the paper from 2007 but when they did the license check on the phone with me the DVLA confirmed I had a clean license as declared to the insurers.

Nobody in america even knows what they are, and whenever I've handed over my license in the UK for hire car or test drives etc.. nobody has said a word.

Nothing has changed AFAIK. Points are still valid for 'totting up' for up to three years. Points may be removed from your licence after four years and insurance companies usually want to know about any points you've had in the last five years.
